Microsoft is creating a simpler, more seamless Copilot experience across desktop, mobile, and web for all users. Starting on August 18, mobile and web users will see clearer personal or work account visual indicators, a simplified name and app icon, and a transition of the web app URL from https://m365.cloud.microsoft to https://copilot.cloud.microsoft. To help ensure customers have uninterrupted access, we encourage partners to familiarize themselves with these changes and review guidance for supporting customers who may be blocked during the transition.

Early preview desktop users that opt-in will see the new simplified Copilot app experience after August 18, with the experience rolling out broadly to all desktop users in mid-September.

Changes to the Microsoft Copilot app URL

Beginning August 18, the web app URL will transition from https://m365.cloud.microsoft to https://copilot.cloud.microsoft and users will be automatically redirected. Security, compliance, and governance controls continue to apply.

Some customers may have the new URL blocked because it was previously associated with the Copilot Personal app experience. Customers without restrictions will begin seeing the URL redirect starting August 18. For blocked customers, we will delay the transition to the new URL until further notice to ensure sufficient time to unblock affected customers. New visual indicators

Users will see new visual indicators inside their Copilot App experience designed to make it easier to distinguish between work and personal accounts:

A green shield identifies Microsoft Entra (work) accounts
A Work/Personal label appears beneath the user profile
A distinct background color for their personal Microsoft account vs. work account

We are making these updates to create a simpler, more seamless Copilot experience across desktop, mobile and web for all users. Just as other Microsoft 365 apps provide a single application experience across personal and work accounts, Copilot now provides a single entry point whether you’re using a Microsoft account (MSA) or Microsoft Entra account (Entra ID).

Next steps

Test the updated desktop app before broad rollout. Organizations that want early access can pilot the new Windows and Mac app architecture on selected devices and validate readiness ahead of general availability. Instructions will be provided via Message Center post when the opt-in period begins later this month.
Prepare for automatic rollout of the desktop app beginning mid-September. Outside of the early preview program, no action is required. The updated Windows and Mac app will be deployed automatically as part of the broad rollout.
